The Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC), a high-powered ‘one-stop agency’, directs and oversees Malaysia’s National ICT initiative, the MSC Malaysia.

What does MDeC do? Mainly to:

  • Drive MSC Malaysia by empowering businesses and connecting communities through ICT; and
  • Facilitate Malaysia’s goal of becoming the preferred location for ICT and multimedia innovations, operations and services.

In short, MDeC champion the merits of MSC Malaysia, facilitate the entry of companies and partner with the Government and the private sector in realising both a vision and an opportunity! In layman terms, the organisation is encouraging Malaysians to #DoMoreLah with technology!

Recently, MDeC hosted it’s first Online Community Gathering, bringing together a panel of speakers and the general public to discuss issues related to the digital economy. See pictures from the events here.

In 2011, MDeC generously donated RM5,000 cash to Twestival Kuala Lumpur’s beneficiary, PRIHATIN. When we approached MDeC for their support to our beneficiary charity PKKI Hulu Langat for 2013, they readily came on-board, pledging to match our tickets sale up to RM10,000!

Thank you, MDeC!

Since 2009, Kuala Lumpur has played host to the Twestival movement. Along the way, have raised almost RM50,000 for various charities locally and abroad.

Raising funds for local charities has been the most meaningful because the team behind Twestival KL has seen first hand the amazing work they have done and continue to do for the young people of Malaysia.

This year, we identified Persatuan Kanak-Kanak Istimewa Hulu Langat (PKKI) as our beneficiary, a centre for children with special needs that came highly recommended. Meeting Shirley Tan, who co-founded the centre 18 years ago, and seeing her passion, commitment and dedication convinced us we have selected the right cause.

Since the first Twestival was held in London in 2008, hundreds of cities have hosted their respective events and raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for charities around the world.

Twestival KL is still organised by the same team that introduced the movement to Malaysia five years ago (which saw Penang and Kota Kinabalu join in later) with new friends.

Our objective is clear – to bring Malaysian social media users together in the form of a tweet up – good company, good entertainment and most of all, for a good cause.

Thank you for your attendance here today and for your support over the years. Your compassion and generosity is truly what inspires us to do this each year.

It’s been a while since we’ve had a tweet up of this scale and we hope you enjoy yourselves.
